Bharat Arun, Team India’s bowling coach, has revealed that head coach Ravi Shastri doesn’t become happy when a bowler concedes a boundary. Though not at the forefront, both Shastri and Arun played massive roles in India’s 2-1 victory in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

After Virat Kohli’s departure following the Adelaide Test, the visiting team made a stupendous comeback. Arun, who’s been India’s bowling coach for quite a few years, said how Shastri shouts at him whenever a bowler strays in line and lengths.

“He will follow the match from the dressing room. But he absolutely hates it when a bowler concedes a boundary. He doesn’t want bowlers to concede a run,” Bharat Arun said on Ravi Ashwin’s YouTube channel.

Arun said that the bowlers should always be aiming to take wickets, not allowing the batters to get their eyes in.

“That’s what he wants. When we bowl, we should keep on taking wickets. And when they are bowling, we should keep on scoring runs. If someone concedes two boundaries, he will shout. If someone concedes a boundary, I know that I am going to be shouted at,” he stated.

Arun also heaped praises on Ajinkya Rahane, who took charge of the Indian team after Kohli left following the Adelaide Test. Arun praised him for backing his bowlers in situations of crisis. Arun said that Rahane gave the bowlers the freedom to express themselves.

“When it comes to Ajinkya, he is a calm person. Rahane might look calm from the outside but there is a steely nerve in him. He backs players and looks calm and even if a bowler goes wrong, he might not be scared of the captain. He knows that he will be backed,” Arun added.

In the Adelaide Test, India were beaten black and blue after being restricted for 36 in their second innings. However, India drew the equalizer with a thunderous victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Thereafter, India pulled off a draw in the Sydney Test after which they brushed off the Aussies in the last Test at The Gabba in Brisbane.
