Australian opener David Warner has said that England all-rounder Ben Stokes has let people down. The 26-year-old was arrested in September on suspicion of actual bodily harm after an incident outside a Bristol nightclub. The former vice-captain of the Three Lions has not traveled with the England Ashes squad, as he is waiting for the results of the police investigation.

Stokes will not take part in the 1st Test in Brisbane, starting from 23rd November onwards. He was made unavailable for selection by the England and Wales Cricket Board ‘until further notice’. Warner said that it is disappointing for the touring side and that he would have loved to have Stokes in Australia, participating in the high-voltage series.

Disappointing for England: Warner

“It’s disappointing for the England team and the country,” said Warner. I would have loved for him to be out here because I know what a competitor he is. He’s a world-class player. He knows he’s made a mistake and it’s about him getting that respect back from his players and fellow countrymen,” added Warner

On him getting back into the English side during the series, Warner said that it is upto the law and management. “Firstly it’s up to the English police. If he does come out here we’ll wish him well. We’re all sportsmen and we’re trying to achieve the same thing, that is to win. I wish everyone good luck.”

England opener Alastair Cook had earlier said that the visitors are not relying on one man. “You can’t always pin your hopes on one guy,” said Cook. If there is a bonus of him making the trip at some stage, that would be great, but I can honestly say it hasn’t been spoken about in the changing room.” Cook said.
