Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade believes Tim David has a great chance to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year if he has a brilliant IPL season. David secured an IPL contract from Mumbai Indians in the mega auction who bought him for a whopping amount of INR 8.25 crore. He had kept his base price of INR 40 lakh and attracted a lot of interest among four other teams as well.
Currently, he is featuring in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Multan Sultans and is having a brilliant tournament in terms of smashing the ball out of the park. He has stunned the crowd with his hitting ability in the last four matches scoring 24 (off 12 balls), 34 (off 18 balls), 51* (off 19 balls) and 71 (off 29 balls). No wonder these performances played a role in MI going all out to secure his services at the mega auction.
Tim David is certainly is a brilliant striker of the ball and Wade was all praise of the 25-year-old while speaking about the same. According to Wade, there is no better hard hitter of the ball currently in Australia than David and compared him with the likes of Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell.
“We don’t have many guys in Australia that can do what he can do at the back-end of an innings. He’s just got power … like the West Indies players, that kind of power; the Pollards, the (Andre) Russells, those guys that can come out and mis-hit balls for sixes.
“I haven’t seen that in Australian cricket for a long, long time. (Marcus) Stoinis is one of the other ones that we’ve got in Australia and I think Tim’s right next to him. It’s invaluable to go away and play those leagues. He’s played a lot now,” Wade said while speaking to cricket.com.au.
I am sure selectors will be speaking to David, says Wade
Moreover, Matthew Wade is also confident that Tim David will make it to Australia squad if he continues to have a good time in the middle, more so in the IPL. He also hoped that the selectors will have one eye on David with the T20 World Cup to be played at home.
“If he puts a good IPL together and gets some runs in some cricket back here, I’m sure he’ll be on the radar for the World Cup. I’m sure the (Australia) selectors will be speaking to him and keeping in touch. I’d love to see him get an opportunity and I’m sure he will down the track,” Wade added.
