If I am asked to lead KKR in second leg of IPL 2021, I will be ready for it: Dinesh Karthik

The second leg of IPL 2021 is all set to take place in the UAE during the September-October window. The first session had to be stopped after staging 29 league matches due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 across teams. As of now, there are clouds of certainty looming over the participation of most of the overseas players for the second leg. Players like Pat Cummins and Ben Stokes have already made their stands clear for the remaining session.

In the same light, the former KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik added that he is clear about Cummins’ unavailability for the remaining part of the league. On the other hand, things are still not clear about Eoin Morgan’s participation. Karthik added that Morgan might pitch in given that there are still three months to go for the IPL 2021.

However, Karthik also made it clear that if in any case, Morgan is unable to make it to the gulf nation, he has no problem in leading the side. Karthik was leading the KKR side before he stepped down midway in IPL 2020 and handed over the reins to English star Eoin Morgan.

“Pat Cummins has himself said that he will not come. But when it comes to Eoin Morgan, there are still three months to go. A lot can change from now till September. But if I am asked to lead, I will be ready for it,” said Karthik in an interview with the Times of India.

Cummins had nine wickets under his belt when the tournament came to a standstill. In fact, he became the first player from the tournament to donate to India’s fight against COVID-19 and his noble deed was followed by several other players eventually. In absence of several overseas stars, it will be a tricky task for the franchise to take up their smooth game ahead.

Talking about KKR in IPL 2021, there were reeling at seventh place on the points table having only two victories in their total seven games.
