MS Dhoni’s comeback to international cricket has been the matter of debate since many months now. The former Indian skipper’s truancy from the sport has led to rife in speculations revolving around his future with Team India.

Dhoni last braced the field while donning the Indian jersey in the semi-final of 2019 World Cup, where the Men in Blue were ousted from the showpiece event. Since then, he has been away from competitive cricket and to make things worse for his fans, the veteran was also excluded from BCCI’s annual contract list.

Despite the conundrum, die-hard Dhoni fans are still eager to see him don the national jersey in T20 World Cup in Australia. A lot was dependent on his performance in the IPL 2020 while leading Chennai Super Kings. However, with the indefinite postponement of the tournament, there is no clear update regarding his future.

Dhoni’s absence from the international stage has left the cricketing fraternity divided. While a section believes that the team management should give him a chance to return, another set of fans thinks that he might have played his last game for Team India.

It’s what Dhoni wants at the end of the day: Ashish Nehra

Many former cricketers have opined over the Jharkhand stalwart’s future and the latest entrant in the list is Ashish Nehra. Nehra, who played under Dhoni in Team India as well as Chennai Super Kings, said that he would pick Dhoni in his team if he was a national selector.

However, according to Nehra, it is up to Dhoni to take a final call over his future. The veteran’s absence from the sport has made the fans question his desire for making himself available for national selection.

“If I was a national selector, MS Dhoni will be in my team but the bigger question is that whether he wants to play or not. It’s what Dhoni wants at the end of the day,” said Nehra as quoted by Times Now.

A couple of months back, Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri had also backed the veteran to make an international comeback. Shastri had said that Dhoni’s stint with CSK in IPL 2020 will strengthen his chances of returning to India squad. But with the postponement of the tournament, the possibility of his comeback still remains in jeopardy.
