The former World Cup-winning Indian pacer RP Singh has lauded wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for his awareness in building up an innings. He also praised Lucknow Super Giants’ skipper for taking his time when needed and accelerating the innings at the end. However, he took a sly dig at Rahul’s teammate Manish Pandey for giving away his wicket easily.

Lucknow Super Giants looked formidable after the mega auction with the signing of Manish Pandey, Deepak Hooda, and Quinton de Kock. In the first few matches, Pandey played at the number three position, before the in-form all-rounder Hooda. But the former failed to repeat his last year’s form with his new team, with just 88 runs in six games this season. However, Rahul was at his usual best with consistent big scores and guided his team to the knockout stages.

RP Singh and Parthiv Patel praise KL Rahul

The 30-year-old star finished the Indian Premier League 2022 season as the second-highest run-scorer, with 616 runs in 15 matches with an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 135.38. Though, he received some criticism for his strike rate and some pointed out his intent for not playing aggressively from the start of the innings. But RP Singh was all praises for Rahu.

“KL Rahul is technically very sound. He has game-awareness as he picks the bowlers against whom he can take chances on a given day. If he gets out for a run-a-ball 25, we’d say that he played like Manish Pandey does. But he ticks all the boxes because he protects his wicket and knows when to accelerate,” RP Singh said l while speaking to Cricbuzz.

Former Indian wicket-keeper batter Parthiv Patel also joined RP Singh in hailing in-form Rahul, who is all set to captain team India in five-match T20I series against South Africa starting from June 9.

“KL Rahul is the only player who can score a century in 20 overs despite starting slowly. If you are able to score 100 runs off 60 balls, it means that you’ve read the game well and know how to pace your innings,” – Parthiv said.
