If you ignore Ranji Trophy, Indian cricket will become spineless: Ravi Shastri

The Ranji Trophy will be held in 2 phases this year, the first phase before, and the second phase after the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While all the league stage fixtures will be held in the first phase, the knockout matches will take place in Phase two.

And now, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri has taken to Twitter to expound the importance of the Ranji Trophy. Shastri tweeted that the Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket, and if the Ranji Trophy is ignored, then Indian cricket will be rendered spineless.

“The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it our cricket will be SPINELESS,” tweeted Ravi Shastri.

Harsha Bhogle also talks about the importance of the Ranji Trophy

Famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle also tweeted about the importance of the Ranji Trophy. Bhogle lauded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for conducting the Ranji Trophy and concluded by stating that the tournament is needed for Indian cricket.

“Excellent initiative to try and get the Ranji Trophy going. It was much needed for both, the first-class cricketers and, in a larger context, for Indian cricket,” tweeted Harsha Bhogle.

Also, the Secretary of the BCCI, Jay Shah stated that the Ranji Trophy is a prestigious competition, and has provided Indian cricket with great talent. Shah concluded by stating that all the steps needed to safeguard the tournament will be taken.

“Ranji Trophy is our most prestigious domestic competition, which has been providing Indian Cricket with an enviable talent pool every year. It is absolutely important that we take all necessary steps to safeguard the interest of this premier event,” said Jay Shah as quoted by The Hindu.

Meanwhile, the 2022 edition of the IPL is set to kick off in the final week of March.
