Team India scripted history earlier this year by registering a 2-1 Test series win on Australian soil. Moreover, the visitors pulled off the heroics with a second-stringed side. While regular skipper Virat Kohli flew back home after the first Test, many key players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, sustained injuries midway. Hence, many Indian players made their Test debut in the series, with Navdeep Saini being one of them.

Elated with the youngster’s performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indian business tycoon Anand Mahindra had gifted Thar SUVs to six cricketers out of which five made their debut during the series. Saini, who received his maiden Test cap during the third match, also got the SUV, and the fast bowler is indeed enjoying his new vehicle. Recently, the right-arm pacer took to Instagram and shared a video of riding the SUV on muddy water, forests and different road.

Notably, Saini is not part of India’s squad for the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the following Test series against England. In the meantime, the fast bowler is testing his SUV on different roads. “Yeah, I’m chilling on a dirt road @mahindrathar,” the 28-year-old wrote while sharing the video on him riding the SUV.

Meanwhile, Navdeep Saini didn’t get many chances in the now-suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The speedster played just one game for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and returned with the figures of 0/27 in two overs. Nevertheless, the fast bowler will have a chance to prove his mettle in India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The series against Sri Lanka comprises three ODIs and as many T20Is, getting underway on July 13.  With the Indian Test squad playing in England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will send a team of white-ball specialists to Sri Lanka. Hence, Saini is all but certain to be part of the squad. The pacer indeed will have a point to prove as he warmed the benches during the five-match T20I series against England earlier this year and even got dropped from the subsequent ODI series. However, a good show in Sri Lanka could earn him a place in India’s first-choice playing XI.
