International cricket in Pakistan has been a rare sight since 2009 when terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team bus. There has always been security concerns in Pakistan which has kept cricket away from the country much to the disappointment of the cricketing fans in the country. The Pakistan Super League has successfully brought back cricket to Pakistan but two blasts in the month of February in the city of Lahore had once against raised questions on the security.

Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan allegedly missed the Pakistan Super league final on Sunday which did not go down well in social media. Khan had expressed in his tweet how much he wants cricket to be back in Pakistan but also agreed to the huge risks involved in hosting the final in Lahore.

A few days back Imran Khan said to the Express Tribune “If something inimical happened on the final day then it will prove to be the end of international cricket in Pakistan”

Two former Pakistani legends Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were present at the Gaddafi stadium to witness the all important final as two new stands were unveiled under their name. But Imran’s absence on the historic night was not taken lightly by the fans though he wished luck to both the teams participating in the final.

Imran had stated in his twitter account “Good luck & best wishes to both cricket teams in the PSL final. Really appreciate the public’s participation. May Allah keep everyone safe.”

He also congratulated the winning team Peshawar Zalmi after their triumph over the Quetta Gladiators but was heavily criticised by the fans over social media for not being present during the final.

In the match, Peshawar Zalmi recorded a total of 148 runs at the loss of six wickets batting first. In reply to which the Gladiators could only manage 90 runs ending up on the losing side.
