Imran Khan's former wife flees Pakistan reportedly due to threats

Reham Khan, the former wife of Imran Khan who is better known as the chief of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is reported to have left the country. She had to fly out after “receiving threats”. This after it has been widely speculated that the former Pakistan captain is set to get married for the third time. He has proposed to his spiritual guru Bushra Maneka and the news of their marriage is expected to be just around the corner.

Reham said that she will speak up and give her account on ‘certain matters’. A local news channel also claims to have information that she flew out of Pakistan on Sunday evening and has shared voice recordings of the threat calls. There was no confirmation from her part as she didn’t want to give out any details since there is a threat to her life.

Extremely distressed

The former journalist stated that she had been getting phone calls threatening her since September 2017. According to Reham she was “extremely distressed”. The situation worsened when no political party in the country came forward to help her and she couldn’t even afford to continue her daughter’s education.

As per the Express Tribune Reham also talked about Imran’s third marriage with Bushra and said, “Maybe he has some obligations, or maybe he thinks the time right now isn’t suitable for him to announce his marriage publicly.”

First two marriages

Reham Khan was the World Cup winning Pakistani captain’s second wife who he married after ending his term with first wife Jemima Goldsmith. He had tied the knot for the first time in 1995 and divorced Jemima in 2004. His second marriage couldn’t even last a year and they were together for just 10 months.

It was in January this year that reports suggested Khan had proposed to his spiritual guru and intended to get married for the third time. The Dawn reported that “Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has set the record straight on rumours regarding his alleged third marriage, a statement issued by the party on Sunday claimed that Khan had proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka, believed to be a respected Pir (faith healer) in Pakpattan.”
