Imran Khwaja, Pankaj Khimji, Neil Speight elected as ICC Associate Member Directors

Imran Khwaja, Pankaj Khimji, and Neil Speight were elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Associate Member Directors after a voting process at the ICC Annual Conference in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK) on July 23 (Saturday).

While Khwaja and Speight regained their position as Associate Member representatives, the Chairman of the Oman Cricket Board and Vice President of the Asian Cricket Council Pankaj Khimji replaced Mahinda Vallipuram as the third member on the panel after successfully winning the contest against the sitting member.

The voting to decide the Associate Members were done on the lines of Associate Members’ Meeting Terms of Reference, with the use of a secret ballot box in which all voters including Voting Associate Member and Regional Representative had three votes.

“Imran Khwaja and Neil Speight have both been re-elected as Associate Member representatives on the Board, with Pankaj Khimji replacing Mahinda Vallipuram. Khimji is the Chairman of the Oman Cricket Board and is a Vice President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC),” the ICC said in a statement on July 23.

“I would like to welcome the elected Associate Member Directors onto the Board for the next term. I look forward to working with Imran, Pankaj, and Neil to continue to push the sport forward by delivering the strategy and growing the game so that more people can enjoy cricket across the world,” ICC chairman Greg Barclay said.

Meanwhile, Khimji extended gratitude to the associate nations for providing him support in the voting process. The 60-year-old also stated that he will be looking ahead to give his best for the Associate Nations’ interests.

“I am overwhelmed by the support of fellow associate nations in giving their support to my candidature for the ICC board seat! I have miles to go and lots to be done. I am looking forward to getting the Associate Nations’ interests in the minds and hearts of the fellow Full member nations,” Pankaj Khimji told Cricbuzz from Birmingham on July 23 (Saturday).
