Inadequacy of Vegetarian Foods has left the Indian players in a Spot of Bother:  As India takes on Bangladesh in the first ODI in Mirpur today. Recent reports reveal that dearth of vegetarian foods has left the Indian players in a spot of bother. Earlier the nationwide shutdown by Islamist political party as a protest against the death penalty against war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed caused some security issues. Within a couple of days the Indian side has to face another matter of concern. Currently Indian team stays in the Pan Pacific Sonargaon where this complication has arisen. BCB has refused to make any change and has convinced the Indian management that other options are unlikely.

Indian players Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin who are vegetarians have experienced this problem many times during foreign tours. They had to find some alternative hotels where they got the food of their liking. But this time scarcity of other suitable hotels in the surrounding has worsened the condition. The crowded streets around the Sonargaon leaves the BCB stranded with security problems. BCB has been hesitant to make any changes as Sonargaon is one of the major corporate partners of the Board.

There are some better options like the Gulshan that the Bangladesh Board should consider as the team manager Biswarup Dey said, “The main problem is the location. It is definitely not the same thing to stay here and Gulshan. This area is very crowded. The boys can’t just get out. There are many restaurants near Gulshan. It would have been convenient there.”

Players must be provided best possible lodging to make them comfortable to deliver their best in the matches. And food comes first in the priority list. And its unavailability may hinder the players to be at their physical best. BCB should make some alternative arrangements as soon as possible to put an end to this issue.
