The much-awaited Test series between India and England will kick off on February 5th in Chennai where the first two matches of the series will be played. The remaining two Test matches will be hosted by the renovated Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.

England’s long tour of India will feature a 5-match T20I series and an ODI series after the conclusion of the Test series. The availability of few Indian players is uncertain due to the injuries suffered in the Australian tour while England suffered from the same due to the bio-bubble.

Here are all the key stats and numbers ahead of the 4-match Test series between India and England:

4Cheteshwar Pujara has four centuries against England across nine home Tests; the joint-most by an Indian alongside Mohammad Azharuddin (4). Pujara scored 839 runs in 15 Test innings against England in India at an average of 64.53 and with help of an unbeaten 203.


6 – Joe Root has at least one fifty-plus score in all the six Test matches he played on Indian soil. Root, in fact, has 50+ scores in 13 of the 16 Test matches he played against India. He has amassed 1421 runs across 28 Test innings against India at an average of 56.84 with four hundreds and nine fifties.


7 – India have been victorious in each of their last seven Test matches at home; a streak that began in 2018. India, in fact, have won each of their last four home Tests by innings margin and have not been bowled out in any of their last five Tests.


8 – India have not lost any of the eight Test matches they played in Chennai since the start of the 21st century. Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium will host the first two Tests where India won each of their last three Tests (2008, 2013, and 2016) and also their last three Tests at the venue against England (1993, 2008, and 2016).


100 – The first appearance for Joe Root in this IND vs ENG Test series will be the 100th game of his Test career. Root made his Test debut against India in 2012 (Nagpur) and played his 50th Test also against India in 2016 (Vizag).


110 – James Anderson has bagged 110 wickets across 27 Tests against India which are the most by any player against the Indian team. However, across ten Tests in India, Anderson has just 26 wickets to his name.


297 – Number of wickets for Ishant Sharma in his 97-match Test career. Ishant is three wickets away from becoming the 6th Indian with 300 wickets in Test cricket. Sharma will also become the slowest to pick 300 Test wickets breaking the record held by Daniel Vettori in 94 matches. Ishant is also two wickets away from completing 100 Test wickets on Indian soil.


11811 – Runs Virat Kohli has aggregated in his international career as a captain. Virat needs 189 more runs to become only the 3rd player to complete 12000 International runs as skipper after Ricky Ponting (15440) and Graeme Smith (14878).
