IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma takes DRS following Virat Kohli's insistence, results in Shamarh Brooks' wicket

The ongoing ODI match between India and West Indies marked history as the home team became the side to feature in 1000 ODIs. The clash also marks the start of the Rohit Sharma era in Indian cricket as the opener stands in his first assignment as full-time ODI captain. Now, the 34-year-old is no alien to the leadership role. Hence, expectations are sky high from him.

However, questions were how Rohit and former skipper Virat Kohli would fare amid the change in leadership. There have been rumours and reports of rift between the two, although the duo have cleared the air time and again. Meanwhile, a particular moment from the first ODI showed the mutual trust between Rohit and Kohli, and fans have been lauding the same.

It all happened when Rohit had to take a call on DRS (Decision Review System) after Shamarh Brooks was adjudged not out by the on-field umpire. An outgoing delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal seemingly went past Brooks bat. What followed was a huge appeal for caught behind from Indian fielders. Rohit at first seemed in two minds regarding the decision to take DRS.

Virat Kohli’s verdict proved to be spot-on

Kohli then came and assured Rohit that there’s an edge. The opener subsequently made the T sign and the decision went upstairs. Brooks was eventually found guilty of edging the ball as the decision was overturned. The video of the same went viral in no time as fans were delighted seeing the Virat-Rohit partnership working well for the Indian team.

Meanwhile, Brooks, who came out to bat at number four, couldn’t do much and perished for a 26-ball 12. In fact, the visitors suffered a horrendous batting collapse after being put on to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.  Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar spun their web as the visitors lost seven wickets inside 100 runs.

Hence, India firmly have the command at the moment and only a miraculous effort can bring the Men in Maroon out of trouble. It must be noted that Indian team has been jolted with COVID-19 with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer testing positive. However, their absence isn’t likely to trouble the hosts at least in the opening game.
