Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli held on to an extremely difficult catch to dismiss West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith and turned the game in India’s favour completely. Washington Sundar wasn’t at his relative best while bowling but he was given the responsibility of bowling the 45th over and he immediately repaid the faith by picking up the most important wicket. Smith had to go for the shot with the required run rate creeping up and the field was packed up in the leg side.

Smith did connect well with the shot but it did not have the distance to go past the deep mid-wicket fielder and Kohli had a lot of time to set him underneath for the catch. It was always going to be difficult to pick up the white ball under lights and the 33-year old showed immense ability by taking the catch in the Australian way. His reactions after the catch did ensure that it is nearly impossible to keep him out of the game.

Kohli’s reaction after taking the excellent catch described a lot about the difficulty factor and the smile on his face showed that it wasn’t easy by any means in terms of the pressure building up. Smith was turning the game in the favour of the West Indies with some phenomenal striking and he was the last hope for the visitors who never got going in the chase of 238. Prasidh Krishna’s four wickets for just 12 runs in his nine overs spell ensured that India won the game by 44 runs and sealed the series victory as well with a lead of 2-0.

Earlier in the day, Kohli faced yet another setback as he was dismissed for just 18 off 30 balls and continued his century drought for the last three years. He was well set up by Smith who bowled a lot of fuller deliveries to get the batter to drive and Kohli fell for the plan eventually. Despite his splendid efforts in the field, Kohli needs to get back to his rhythm of scoring centuries for the country with one more game to go in the ODI series against the West Indies.
