India registered a whitewash over the West Indies in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series and now, they would be pumped up heading into the T20I series. The first of the three-match series would be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, February 16. As the Men In Blue under the leadership of Rohit Sharma look forward to winning a second consecutive T20I series, they have received a huge setback just a couple of days before the series opener.

Bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against the two-time winners and as per reports, it will require him a few weeks to recover. According to reports in Cricbuzz, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) official has confirmed that the southpaw has suffered a Grade 1 hamstring injury and he will have to report at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Tuesday where he would be needed to spend three weeks.

Washington Sundar to be out of action for a few weeks: Reports

As per reports, the 22-year-old left the Indian camp in Kolkata for Bengaluru where the NCA is located. The bowling all-rounder had made his comeback to the highest level in the recent One Day series. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar has also become the third Indian player to be ruled out of the West Indies T20I series.

India limited-overs KL Rahul and left-arm spinner Axar Patel have also been ruled out of the three-match series. While Rahul sustained an upper left hamstring strain when he was fielding during the second ODI, Axar has resumed the final stage of his rehabilitation after recovering from COVID-19. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda as replacements according to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) release. However, it has been reported that the selection committee is unlikely to announce a replacement for Sundar taking bio-security protocols into account.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer should be fit before the IPL 2022 which is expected to commence from March 27. Sundar, who was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore on November 30, 2021 has been roped in by the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad for  INR 8.75 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction.
