India and South Africa to celebrate 30 years of cricketing relations during New Year's Test at Johannesburg

A list of 100 ‘Hall of Fame’ cricketers will also be unveiled during this monumental occasion.

The second Test match between South Africa and India will commence on 3rd January 2022 and will be played at Johannesburg. This is a monumental occasion for both teams, as the New Year’s Test match will mark 30 years of cricketing relations between the two heavyweights.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) also released a statement regarding the matter as well. And, to commemorate this monumental occasion, the most iconic moments between the two countries will be celebrated at Johannesburg.

“Part of the 30-year anniversary of the cricketing ties between India and South Africa includes the celebration and recognition of the most iconic moments and individuals in the 30-year history of the stadium,” read a statement released by Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Massive celebrations lined up for this historic occasion

And, several events have been planned to celebrate this historic occasion. A list of 100 ‘Hall of Fame’ cricketers will be unveiled, and people who have contributed off the field will also be recognized for their work as well.

Also, the iconic moments like the 2003 ODI World Cup and the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will also be celebrated as well. The Johannesburg stadium also played host to one of the most famous ODI matches between South Africa and Australia in the year 2006.

In this epic match, the South African side chased down a target of 435 set by the Australian side, and this match is now a part of cricketing folklore. India’s South African assignment will begin with a three-match Test series, with the 1st Test slated to be held at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The 1st rubber will commence on 26th December 2021.

After the three Test matches, the Indian side will also take on South Africa in a three-match ODI series as well. The ODI series will start on 19th January 2021.
