He himself was a member of an invincible team in the late 1990s and the 2000s. Legendary spin bowler Shane Warne feels in the current times, it is India who have emerged as a dominant side and given their performances over the past few years, it can go on to dominate the cricketing world for times to come. The 49-year-old explained how the core players of the Indian time can take the game forward and bring more honours to the nation.

India recently won their maiden Test and ODI series against Australia in their den beside hammering New Zealand 4-1 in an ODI series to register the best victory over the Black Caps in the 50-overs format on their soil. They also came very close to winning their maiden T20I series in New Zealand but lost the deciding game by just four runs. In early 2018, Virat Kohli’s men thumped South Africa 5-1 in a six-game away ODI series, which was also a first.

In between, they have won the Asia Cup without Kohli and without dropping a game and beat England in an away T20I series and the Windies in all three formats comprehensively at home. Given their terrific start to 2019 as they won two ODI series in Australia and New Zealand inside a month, the fans have been expecting high performance from the Men in Blue in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales in May-July.

Warne praises India’s fast bowlers

India are currently ranked second in the ICC’s ODI listings, behind England, and both these sides have quite a lead over the rest. “I think India can now have a dominant time in world cricket if they can keep their players on the park, the players stay hungry and value the opportunity and be grateful to play Test cricket,” Warne was quoted as saying at a promotional event in Mumbai.

“India in Australia this year was one of the best sides I have seen in a long long time to play the game. Australia are a good side even though they are not a great side now. In Australian conditions, they are tough to beat. The way India played; their bowlers, I know Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami bowled great but Bumrah was outstanding.”

Warne, who has over 1,000 wickets in international cricket, praised Kohli in a recent interview saying that he admired the latter’s honesty while expressing himself. Though he refused to pass a verdict over comparing Kohli with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, he made his high regard for the Indian captain evident.
