For some time, the advertisement has been running on the Star Sports Network with India cricketers MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni donning their mother’s names on their back. However, for perhaps the first time in international cricket, the Indian cricketers are donning their mother’s names on the back of their jerseys.

MS Dhoni was the first to showcase the newly compiled jersey when he went ahead to call the toss correctly. At the toss, the 35-year old Dhoni mentioned that it was indeed an emotional time for most of the player, many of whom would like to pay respects to the mother. Dhoni also added that the father is also someone present for the most part but the emotional connect remains with the mother.

“It looks flat, we played a bit of IPL here. A bit of humidity earlier, but it will get better. I think it’s a brilliant initiative (speaking about the special jersey which is designed particularly for today’s game). It’s important to appreciate the contribution of mothers. Often we talk about soldiers and get patriotic. Bumrah is fit and Jayant Yadav will make his debut,” Dhoni said.

While this is all important, the encounter the Indians find themselves in is something is something important. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli will do all they can to avoid a situation wherein they will be able to keep the record against New Zealand without much of a blemish.

However, the fact of the matter also remains that the Kiwis are coming close yet again to completing their first series win against the Indians in their own backyard.
