India has certainly gone ahead of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in last 10-12 years: Inzamam-ul-Haq

The talk has been going around for quite some time now that India has developed itself into one of the strongest sides across all formats. In fact, many cricketing experts lauded India’s bench strength and acknowledged that nation is capable enough of playing its two XI at the same time. In the same light, former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq admitted that India has improved its game a lot in the last decade.

Haq added that at one point in time, India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan were rivals but now Men in Blue have gone past all of them. The credit to India’s great development in cricket goes to its robust domestic setup, reckoned the former cricketer, a department where the other two teams lacked big time.

“Until 2010, there was intense competition among these three teams. But over the last 10-12 years, India has improved its game immensely and has certainly gone ahead of Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The credit goes to the IPL for sure, but I must admit that India has focused a lot on its first-class cricket structure and that has played a huge role in its development.”

“The associations have got money and the players have got world-class facilities – in terms of training. India is reaping the benefits of its robust domestic structure, whereas Pakistan and Sri Lanka have not been able to develop their first-class cricket that much,” Inzamam told Sportstar.

Haq also went to talk about India’s memorable victory over Australia during their last tour to Down Under. He added that the way the team played without the services of its main players like Virat Kohli and several injured players, was commendable. Young players Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar assisted their team to pull off a remarkable feat.

He added that earlier youngsters were given some time to settle down when they marked their debut but now, they start performing immediately. In fact, India’s youngsters became their backbone while beating Aussie in their backyard under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane.
