India A led by Manish Pandey suffer an embarrassing defeat in Australia

Team India in their opening game of the Quadrangular series in Australia suffered a humiliating defeat as the Aussie bowling pair of Chris Tremain and Daniel Worrall ran through the Indian batting lineup after they were put into bat first by the home team. They racked up nine wickets among themselves as only one India A batsman managed a double digit score.

Faiz Fazal and Karun Nair opened the innings for India but both were sent back in the third over of the game by Tremain. No.3 Mandeep Singh and captain Manish Pandey didn’t bother to trouble the scorers and returned with ducks. Wickets kept tumbling as no batsman found his feet against the Aussie bowling pair.

Axar was the lone Indian who managed to get into the 10s and was dismissed for 15 by Michae Neser the only other bowler who was introduced by the hosts. Tremain needed to bowl 7 overs for his 5-wicket haul, his first in List A cricket, Worrall in his 7.4 overs picked a 4-for and Neser bowled just one over as the Indian team with a list of player with international experience in their lineup crumbled for just 55 runs in 15.4 overs.

In reply, Australia had no pressure of the scoring rate and thus took it easy. Openers Kurtis Patterson and Marcus Stoinis gave them a steady start. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled Stoinis in the 9th over and Axar foxed the opposition skipper Chris Lynn for a naught. But Patterson carried on to remain unbeaten on 23 while Peter Handscomb just needed to score 11 runs and Australia overhauled the target with 8 wickets in hand after batting for 17.1 overs.

After winning the opening game by a huge margin Australia A will now face the National Performance Squad on August 16 at the same ground. India A on the other hand, would want to forget the game as soon as they can and prepare themselves for the second match against South Africa A on August 17.
