Ahead of the five-match T20I series against England, India, on Wednesday, moved to the second spot in the latest ICC T20I team rankings. The latest rise in T20Is means India are in top two of all three formats. The Virat Kohli-led side is currently the number one ranked team in Tests while their rank in the ODIs is two.

India moved to the second spot after Australia’s slip. The Aaron Finch-led side has dropped to the third spot following the 2-3 loss in the five-match series against New Zealand. India are ahead of Australia by just one rating point. India’s opponents for the upcoming series, England are currently the top-ranked T20I team in the world.

The Eoin Morgan-led side are leading India by seven rating points. The Men in Blue will have an opportunity to topple England and become the number one T20I side in the world in the upcoming series. The hosts need to win the five-match series by a margin of 4-1 to move to the top spot in the shortest format of the game. Pakistan and New Zealand complete the top five in the T20I rankings.

Players’ rankings

Talking about players’ rankings, Aaron Finch has moved to the second spot after scoring two fifties against New Zealand. Finch jumped two spot and replaced India’s KL Rahul who has slipped one position to the third spot. Rahul continues to be the top-ranked T20I batsman for India. England’s Dawid Malan is currently at the top of the batsmen’s ranking.

The only other Indian batsman in the top ten is Kohli who is at the sixth spot. New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has also jumped three spots to break into the top ten. He is currently occupying the eighth spot. In the bowlers and all-rounders’ list, no Indian features in the top ten.

Australia spinner Ashton Agar has risen four slots and he is now positioned at the fourth spot after impressing against New Zealand. Ish Sodhi has also gained three spots and is now ranked at the eighth position after starring in the series win for the Black Caps. Afghanistan star Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi are the number one T20I bowler and number one T20I all-rounder respectively.
