India will be facing Bangladesh next in their World T20 2016 match. But the problem for them lies that they are currently placed at no.4 in the group just above Bangladesh. Hence skipper Dhoni has asked the lower order hitters to increase the net run rate of the team so that India doesn’t face the humiliation of exit in group stage at home.
India got a huge confidence boosting win against Pakistan a few nights ago after a shocking and big loss against New Zealand at Nagpur in the opening match of the tournament. India now needs to win every match of theirs with a good net run rate in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
Skipper MS Dhoni expressed the views that India needed to improve drastically in order to qualify from their group which also has Australia in it. They not only have to beat Bangladesh and Australia to qualify, they need to do it quickly to increase their net run rate as well.
“I still feel there is still scope for improvement and in the coming two games that will be our priority,” said Indian skipper Dhoni. Currently, New Zealand sits at the top of the table with 4 points from 2 matches, while Australia, Pakistan and India are all on 2 points each, having lost one match and won one match each.
“In the first game, our run rate went down. So it’s not only about winning but you have to take care of the run-rate at some point,” added Dhoni. India needs to improve the net run rate so that if it comes to the net run rate to determine who qualifies from this group.
India is looking to become the first team to lift the World T20 title for the second time, having won the inaugural tournament in 2007.
