India U19 all-rounder Atharva Ankolekar missed out on getting a bid in the IPL auction that took place in December 2019. Atharva has been brilliant with both bat and ball thus far for the Indian team in the ongoing U19 World Cup. With the all-rounder doing well both with bat and ball, he wants his mother to quit her job.

Atharva’s mother Vaidehi, who serves as a bus conductor with Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), feels India winning the U19 World Cup can be the turning point of her son’s life. India is all set to play the World Cup final against Bangladesh on Sunday.

“It can be a turning point of his life. If India wins this match, he will get a lot of future-scope, and confidence from winning a big final,” Atharva’s mother Vaidehi said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“The final is an opportunity to fulfill Atharva’s father’s dreams. He wants me to quit working because my job is strenuous, but I can’t take a hasty step. His income is based on tournaments he plays, it’s not fixed. Besides, I don’t want to depend completely on him. I also have a 14-year-old, who also plays cricket. I will continue with my job, at least till he becomes a stable cricketer.”

IPL comes every year: Atharva Ankolekar’s mother

Atharva was a bit disappointed on not getting into IPL auction. He hasn’t played any List-A cricket till the auction time and according to the auction criteria, the player should play at least one List A game to make it to the auction. However, his mother feels IPL comes every year and winning U19 World Cup will be once in a lifetime.

“He was a little sad that IPL did not happen this year. But IPL comes every year. A U19 World Cup, he will get only once in a lifetime,” she said.

Atharva Ankolekar would be aiming to come up with brilliant performance with both bat and ball in the big U19 World Cup Final against Bangladesh and take his team to title victory.
