Bangladesh lost a match that was in their grasp for 39.3 overs. Needing just 11 runs to win in the last over. Mushfiqur hit two boundaries off Pandya and brought the equation down to 3 runs. But both he and Mahmudullah had a brain freeze and got out leaving the game unfinished for Bangladesh. Dhoni’s ice cool mind won a match for India off the last ball when two runs were needed off the last ball and he himself ran the non-striker out. Bangladesh will have much to ponder over the next few days. Here are the player ratings for Bangladesh for this match.
Tamim Iqbal – 7/10
Tamim Iqbal did what he is known to do and gave Bangladesh a brilliant start taking on the Indian opening bowlers. He was severe on young Jasprit Bumrah and hit the youngster for four fours in an over. He gave a good platform to the rest of the batsmen before departing for 35.
Mohammad Mithun – 3/10
Mohammad Mithun was given the chance to open the batting in place of Soumya Sarkar, who looked out of form in past few games. But here he was caught in the spin of Ravi Ashwin and was caught by Pandya trying to get some quick runs.
Shabbir Rahman – 6/10
Again Shabbir Rahman showed why he was given the Man of the tournament award in the recently held Asia Cup T20. Shabbir came in when Ashwin was going great guns and he still managed to score runs at will. But his promising innings was cut short by a lightening quick stumping by MS Dhoni off a wide ball by Suresh Raina.
Shakib Al Hasan – 6/10
Shakib was brilliant with the ball taking 1/23 off his four overs and when the time came to do the job with the bat, he was going well. He hit a couple of sixes and was dropped once by Ashwin. Btu it was Ashwin who dismissed him in pure Test match style, caught in slips.
Mashrafe Mortaza – 7/10
Mashrafe gets his rating, thanks to some brilliant thinking as s captain which helped keeping India fewer than 150. He rotated his bowlers perfectly and kept the pressure on Indian batting, while bowling brilliantly himself giving just 22 runs. Though his ploy of promoting himself didn’t work, the thinking was correct.
Mahmudullah – 6/10
Mahmudullah did his bit with the ball picking Yuvraj Singh’s wicket. But when it came to finish the job with the bat, he didn’t learn from the mistake of his teammate and instead of finishing the match with a nudge, went for the glory shot and was dismissed leaving the job to the tail enders.
Soumya Sarkar – 6/10
Sarkar who has been woefully out of form batted at no.7 today and probably gave the Indian fans a heart attack by hitting that crucial four in the Nehra over. His 21 off 21 balls were very important in the context of the game. But again, he couldn’t stay there to see his team to the victory.
Mushfiqur Rahim – 4/10
Mushfiqur Rahim will not forget this match soon. With 11 runs needed to win off 6 balls, he had the sense of mind to hit two brilliant fours off the young Pandya. But again he suffered a brain freeze, as he tried to hit Pandya for a six to finish the match in Dhoni’s style and was caught by Dhawan at mid-wicket.
Shuvagata Hom – 5/10
Hom bowled his 3 overs for 24 runs and picked up the prize wicket of Virat Kohli. He just had to hit the ball somewhere in order to tie the match in the last over, but alas, his partner at the other hand got run out and his team lost the match by just one run.
Al-Amin Hossain – 6/10
Al-Amin Hossain’s bowling figures don’t do the justice to his actual bowling effort at the end of the innings, where he managed to tie up the Indian batsmen in a bow. His brilliant use of yorkers and cutters meant that even the biggest hitters of the ball like Dhoni and Jadeja could not score runs off him.
Mustafizur Rahman – 7/10
Mustafizur made his comeback into the team against Australia and impressed everyone by picking two wickets. He faced the team against which he had made his amazing debut and continued to haunt the Indian batting lineup. Rahman picked two wickets, that of Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja and helped Al-Amin Hossain in tying up hitters like Dhoni and Jadeja in the last few overs of the Indian innings.
