Despite a great day with both bat and ball, England still need another 318 runs on the final day while the hosts are 8 wickets away from victory. India bowled out for 204 in the first session starting the day at 98/3. Lower order added crucial runs to take India’s lead past 400. Chasing 405 to win in 5 sessions, the England openers went into shield scoring under 1.5 in an over. Cook and Hameed added 75 for the opening wicket in 50.2 overs. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.

1.49 – Cook and Hameed’s partnership run rate of 1.49 is the lowest for any partnership which lasted for more than 25 overs in Tests. (Where ball data is known)

2 – Wriddhiman Saha made two unsuccessful reviews for LBW while batting in this Test. He became the 2nd Indian to do so. Sachin Tendulkar did the same in 2008 vs Sri Lanka in the 3rd Test match.

3 – Number of sixes Mohammed Shami hit in this Test, most by an Indian no.11 in a Test match.

4/33 – Stuart Broad’s figures in the 2nd innings are his best bowling figures in Tests in Asia. Previous best are 4/36 vs Pakistan in 2012 at Dubai.

11 – Number of fifty plus scores Alastair Cook has in 4th innings in Test cricket. Only 4 players have more fifty-plus scores than Cook in 4th innings.
