From 148/2 at Tea break, India went down to 156/5 in space of 3 overs. Captain Kohli got out for 62 leaving his side at 204/6. But Ravi Ashwin came to rescue his team once again with the bat, this time along with Ravindra Jadeja by putting on an unbeaten stand of 67 at stumps on day 2. Ashwin brought up his 5th fifty plus score this year in Tests as India finished the day at 271/6, trailing England’s first innings total of 283 by just 12 runs. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.
2 – Ravichandran Ashwin became the 2nd player to have 5 or more fifty-plus scores and 5 or more five-wicket hauls in Test cricket in a calendar year. Daniel Vettori achieved this double in 2008.
5 – Ashwin became the 5th Indian and 23rd player in overall to score 1000+ runs and take 100+ wickets in Tests at home.
5 – Number of fifty plus scores Ravi Ashwin has in 2016 in Tests, joint 2nd most by any Indian in a calendar year while batting at No.6 or lower. VVS Laxman has 7 fifty plus scores at No.6 or lower position in 2012.
