After huge contributions from the lower-middle order with the bat, India are now looking set to wrap up the Test match at Mohali on 4th day itself. Starting the day at 271/6, India bowled out for 417 with the spin duo Jadeja and Jayant scoring fifties like their head, Ashwin. By stumps on the 3rd day, India had England 4 down for 78, who still need to score 56 runs to avoid an innings loss. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.

0 – Number of times India lost a Test match after taking a 100 run first innings lead at home. India took a 134-run lead in this Test. India lost only once anywhere after taking 100+ first innings lead: vs Sri Lanka at Galle last year after taking a 192-run lead.

1 – India’s first innings was the first instance of Ravindra Jadeja top scoring for India in an innings in Tests.

1 – For the first, 3 players batting at No.7 or lower scored fifties in same Test innings for India. Ashwin, Jadeja, and Jayant scored fifties.

2 – Number of times India crossed the 400-run mark in Tests after losing half their side under 200. From 156/6, India went on to score 417.

4 – Ravindra Jadeja’s top 4 scores in International Cricket have come against England. Jadeja’s 90 in this game is his highest score in Internationals beating 87 at Leeds in 2014 in an ODI.

7 – India’s No.7, No.8, and No.9 scoring fifties is only the 7th such instance in Test cricket, first time for India.

7 – Number of times Ravichandran Ashwin has got Alastair Cook’s wicket in Test cricket, joint most times he has dismissed a player in this format. Ashwin got Ed Cowan on 7 occasions.

9 – Moeen Ali now has batted at all the 9 positions from No.1 to No.9 in Test Cricket. England’s 2nd innings was the first time he batted at No.3 in this format.

25.01 – Average runs added by India for every wicket after 6 down in Test cricket since 2013, the best rate for any team. The next best rate for any team in this period is 23.81 by Australia.

65 – Number of catches Jonny Bairstow has taken in 2016 in Tests, the joint most by any player in a calendar year. Mark Boucher also took 65 catches in 1998.

68 – Number of dismissals Jonny Bairstow has made as keeper in 2016 in Tests, the most by any player in a calendar year. He went past Ian Healy and Mark Boucher who have made 67 dismissals in a year.

90 – Jadeja’s 90 is his 3rd highest score across any format since his 3rd triple century in FC cricket in December 2012. He scored a 134 in List A game and 91 in an FC game in 2015/16 season.

104 – Number of balls Ravindra Jadeja has taken for his fifty, the joint 3rd slowest fifty for him in first-class cricket.

170 – Balls faced by Jadeja in the first innings, the most faced by him in any International innings. He faced 103 balls in an ODI vs Australia at Guwahati in 2009. In fact, this is the first time he faced 100 balls in a Test innings.

230 – Runs aggregated by India’s batsmen coming at No.7 or lower, the 3rd most by them in a Test innings and highest at home. Their highest is 259 runs in 2007 also against England at The Oval.

2006 – Last time before Ben Stokes, an England pacer took a 5-wicket haul in India in Tests was Matthew Hoggard in 2006 at Nagpur. In fact, Ben Stokes was only the 2nd England pacer to pick a 5-fer in India in Tests in last 30 years.
