Virat Kohli’s name was written all over at Wankhede on the 3rd day as he kept setting new milestones throughout the day. Coming to bat after Pujara’s wicket on 2nd ball of the day, Kohli added a century stand with Murali Vijay who scored 136. Later he had a half century partnership with Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav to take India to 451/7 at end of the day remaining unbeaten on 147. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.

1 – For the first time in his career, Virat Kohli’s average touched 50 in Test cricket. He now averages 50+ in all the 3 formats.

2 – Murali Vijay is only the 2nd player to convert his career’s first 8 centuries into 125+ scores. Brian Lara was the first to do.

2 – Virat Kohli became the 5th Indian to aggregate 500 runs in a Test series on two different occasions. Sunil Gavaskar (5) is the only Indian to do it more than twice.

3 – Number of centuries Murali Vijay has scored in first-class cricket at Wankhede, the joint most for him at a venue. He scored 3 centuries at Chepauk.

4 – Number of centuries Virat Kohli has scored in Tests in 2016, the joint most for an Indian captain in a calendar year. Sachin Tendulkar had 4 Test centuries as captain in 1997.

5 – Number of times Virat Kohli has scored 140 runs in a day in Tests as captain, the most times by any Indian captain. No other Indian captain has done so more than twice.

6 – Number of 140+ scores Virat Kohli now has in Tests as captain, the most for any Indian. Sunil Gavaskar and Mohammad Azharuddin have 5 scores of over 140.

8 – Number of Test centuries Virat Kohli has scored as captain, the 3rd most for an Indian captain in this format.

34 – Innings taken by Virat Kohli to complete 2000 runs in Tests as captain, the fewest by any Indian captain. Sunil Gavaskar took 38 innings. Overall, only 4 players took fewer innings than Kohli to complete 2000 runs as captain.

89 – Innings taken by Virat Kohli to score 4000 Test runs, he is the 6th fastest Indian to the milestone. Overall, he is the 14th Indian to score 4000+ runs in Tests.

552 – Runs aggregated by Virat Kohli in this series, the 2nd most by any Indian captain in a Test series. Sunil Gavaskar scored 732 runs vs West Indies as captain in 1978.

1112 – Runs scored by Virat Kohli in Tests in 2016, the most by any Indian captain in a calendar year. Previous most was 1080 by Rahul Dravid in 2006.

2002 – Last Indian opener before Murali Vijay to score a century at the Wankhede Stadium was Virender Sehwag in 2002 vs West Indies. Vijay is only the 3rd Indian opener to score a ton at this venue after Gavaskar and Sehwag.

2011 – Last time before this Test, India had 2 left-handers between No.5 to No.8 in a Test innings was in 2011 in England series.

2011 – Last India before Kohli, to aggregate 1000 Test runs in a calendar year was Rahul Dravid in 2011.
