India v South Africa ODI series – South Africa player ratings: South Africa has won the Gandhi – Mandela ODI series 3-2, they had some amazing knocks by their batsmen, their bowlers bowled superb spells on sub-continent wickets that are not made for them.
AB de Villiers like he is at most times was the ultimate performer for them. But one definitely has to save the apatite to praise young Kagiso Rabada and his senior partner Morne Morkel, both of whom bowled beautifully to chain down the Indian batsmen who were known to go wild in the death overs.
Since South Africa won the series here is the rating each player gets for his performance throughout the 5 matches.
Hashim Amla 3/10:
The elegant right-hander scored 89 runs in 5 matches. It has been a forgettable series for Amla with the bat, as he averaged 17.80 in 5 games. Only bright spot for him was that he completed 6000 runs in ODIs during this series and became the fastest batsman to do so.
Quinton de Kock 9/10:
He loves the Indian bowling attack and he made sure that the love affair stays on. Quinton de Kock amassed 318 runs at an average of 63.60 with a couple of centuries to his credit. He took some amazing catches throughout the series and was at his very best behind the wickets.
AB de Villiers 9/10:
The skipper led the team from the front, as he notched up 358 runs at an average of 89.50 along with 3 centuries in 5 matches. AB de Villiers has scored the most runs in the series, he also has the most sixes, and the scored the most number of 100s in the series. No wonder, he was awarded the Man of the Series, AB is easily the stand-out performer for the visitors.
Faf du Plessis 8/10:
Faf du Plessis notched up 323 runs at an average of 80.75, he saved his best for the decider and played a magnificent knock of 133* on the final night. Faf has played a vital role in South Africa clinching the series in style. He scored 3 fifties and a century in this series.
Farhaan Behardien 5/10:
He smashed 124 runs from 5 games. Behardien has been a silent warrior for the visitors. He has played some crucial knocks and played the support when someone else was leading the charge. Farhaan Behardien definitely played a vital role in South Africa winning the series.

David Miller 4/10:
The southpaw had a forgettable series scoring 74 runs from 5 games at an average of 18.50. David Miller was even promoted to open the innings once, and made it count with a quick 33 but was again moved to his regular position where he did not make an impact.
Dale Steyn 7/10:
Dale Steyn took some time to get his act right and start picking wickets, but once he got there, he did was he does best get South Africa breakthroughs. The fast bowler picked up 10 wickets from 5 games at an average of 26.70. Steyn is at the second spot in the overall series wickets tally. He has been instrumental in visitors winning the series.
Kagiso Rabada 9/10:
The young man who turned it on is a sensation for the cricket fans. He picked up 10 wickets at an average of 24.10 and turned out to be the man between India and the series.
Morne Morkel 7/10:
The lanky fast bowler played 3 games and picked up 7 wickets at an average of 18.85 with a best of 4/39. Morne Morkel has been vital in the bowling line-up throughout the series. He formed a formidable pair with Rabada and together they troubled all the Indian batsmen.
Imran Tahir 7/10:
The African leg-spinner struck at regular intervals and got them crucial breakthroughs at defining moments in the game. Imran Tahir has been instrumental in this series for the hosts. He picked up 7 wickets at an average of 36.85 from 5 ODIs.
Kyle Abbott 5/10:
The fast bowler played one game and picked up one wicket for 39 runs. With Rabada and Steyn leading from the front, Abbott had an off time in the office.
Chirs Morris 4/10:
Morris played one game and picked up 1 wicket while giving away 55 runs. He has been expensive for the visitors and was not in their plan of things hence was a part of the XI only for one game.
Aaron Phangiso 4/10:
The youngster played one game and turned out to be expensive. He failed to pick up any wickets and ended up in a sorry figure of 0/51, though he did comparatively better with the bat scoring 20 runs, but was of little importance in the outcome of the match.
