India started off their World T20 preparations at home on a disappointing note as their batting crumbled in front of an inexperienced Sri Lankan bowling attack in the first of the 3 T20Is at Pune. After being put into bat, India lost Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane in the very first over. Dhawan and Raina failed to capitalize the chances given by the fielders. Yuvraj didn’t stay longer while Dhoni and Pandya fell cheaply. Towards the end, Ashwin batted with the tail and took India past 100 runs.

Chasing 102, Lanka lost their 1st wicket in the first over itself. Required rate caught up with 6 an over with 2 wickets down, Sri Lankan batsmen took a move on. Spinners picked up 3 quick wickets but it was too late as Siriwardana struck a six and four in final 2 balls of the 18th over as India registered their 3rd successive loss at home and lost their number 1 ranking in T20Is to the visitors. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

101 – This is India’s 3rd lowest total in T20Is and 2nd lowest at home. Interestingly, their lowest score in T20Is at home came in the last game in India back in October 2015 where they were bowled out for 92 at Cuttack.

1 – India losing 2 wickets in first over was the first instance for India where they lost 2 wickets in the opening over of their team’s innings. The earliest they lost their 1st two wickets in a T20I was in 7 balls against Sri Lanka at Colombo in 2009.

3 – 8 Indian batsmen got dismissed for single scores digits today is the 3rd instance where an Indian innings has seen 8 or more batsmen getting out in single figures in T20Is. Among full member nations, only New Zealand with 5 times has recorded more instances of 8+ batsmen getting dismissed for single digits in a T20I innings than India.

8 – Number of wickets taken by Sri Lankan pacers in today’s game. This is the first time the Sri Lankan pacers have taken 8 wickets in a T20I match.

31* – Ravichandran Ashwin’s unbeaten 31 turned out to be the top score in Indian innings. Ashwin top scoring for the team while coming to bat at No.9 is only the 5th instance where a batsman batting at No.9 top scored for his team in a T20I innings.

50 – Suresh Raina became the 2nd Indian after MS Dhoni to play 50 T20Is.

26 – Number of T20 matches played by Dasun Shanaka before this game. He picked up 2 wickets in the 11 overs he bowled. Today he picked up 3 wickets including 2 in his first over of T20I career.

4 – Kasun Ranjitha’s figures of 3/29 are the 4th best bowling figures for a Sri Lankan on T20I debut.

0 – Number of bowlers before Kasun Ranjitha managed to pick up 3 wickets on T20I debut against India.

2 – Ravi Ashwin became only the 2nd Indian to score 30 runs and pick 2 wickets in the same T20I. Yuvraj Singh is only other Indian and he has done it on two different occasions. Yuvraj scored 60* and picked 3 wickets vs Sri Lanka at Mohali in 2009 and then scored 38 and picked 3 wickets vs England at Pune in 2012.

28 – Ashish Nehra has so far scored 28 runs in T20Is including today. Interestingly all those came against Sri Lanka.

32.33 – Ravi Ashwin’s batting average in T20I after the match is 32.23. In the current Indian XI, only Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina have better batting averages than Ashwin in this format.

2012 – Jasprit Bumrah bowled a maiden over during his first over today. Last Indian pacer to bowl a maiden over in a T20I was Ashoke Dinda in 2012 vs Sri Lanka at Pallekele. Overall, the last Indian player who bowled a maiden in a T20I was Amit Mishra vs Pakistan at Dhaka in 2014.
