India returned strong after a batting debacle in the first ODI by making up with a huge total powered by their stand-in captain Rohit Sharma’s record 3rd ODI double hundred. India overhauled their total of 112 in the first ODI with the opening stand itself as Rohit anchored the team innings amidst the fifties from Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer before eventually taking off in the final ten overs. India posted a huge total of 392/4 and the Lankans failed to come close at any stage.

All the stats and records created during India’s grand victory in the Mohali ODI:

2 – Angelo Mathews’ century in this game is his 2nd in ODI cricket with both of them coming against India in India and in losing cause. He scored 139* in 2014 in Ranchi which also included a hundred from Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

2 – Rohit’s 12 sixes in the game is the 2nd instance of him scoring ten sixes in an ODI innings after the 16 sixes against Australia in 2013. AB de Villiers and Martin Guptill are the only other player to hit ten sixes in an ODI innings twice.

2 – Rohit scoring his maiden ODI hundred as captain in his 2nd innings is the joint 2nd earliest an Indian captain managed to score an ODI ton. Sachin Tendulkar scored on his captaincy debut while Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli also scored a hundred in their 2nd innings.

6 – Rohit Sharma’s six ODI centuries in 2017 are the joint 3rd most for an Indian in a calendar year. Virat Kohli also has six ODI tons in 2017. Last time before these two, an Indian scored as many as six ODI hundreds in a year was Sourav Ganguly (7) in 2000.
