Another comprehensive performance from India left Sri Lankan fans heartbroken and dejected, as India won the match by 6 wickets. A century from Rohit Sharma, well backed up by a perseverant knock from MS Dhoni helped India chase down a relatively modest total. India also took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series handing yet another humiliation to the hosts.

Akila Dananjaya once again made a difference in the game, reducing India to 61/4 whilst chasing. But yet again, the Indians emerged victorious and this antagonized the Lankan fans at Pallekele to do something foolish. The game was stopped for a good 30 minutes after some dejected fans threw bottles into the field of play. Security some how cleared the stands and ensured the match ended legitimately.

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah‘s master class helped India rattle past the Lankan line up. He was spot on with his channels and managed to hit the bullseye pretty much in the will. Axar Patel too chipped in with a decent spell and that helped India to restrict the home side to 217/9 in 50 overs.

Not all Indian players got going today and it was the brilliance of few individuals which helped the visitors get over the line. Here are the Indian player ratings for the third ODI.

Shikhar Dhawan 4/10

It was an off day for the Gabbar. He was lively on the field but with the willow in hand, he fell prey to a scorcher from Lasith Malinga. He was brilliant in the first two games, but not today.

Rohit Sharma 9/10

It was a valiant effort from Rohit Sharma, who stood firm regardless of what happened at the other end. He registered his 12th ODI hundred chasing a modest total, which India made difficult for themselves by losing early wickets. But he stitched a stupendous partnership with MS Dhoni to take India home and win the series 3-0 with two more matches left.

Virat Kohli 5.5/10

Not a great day with the bat for Kohli, but as a skipper, he led his side brilliantly. He didn’t put a foot wrong with his tactics. He has not been in great touch with the bat barring few fifty plus scores here and there. It’s important for the side that he gets back to his groove as soon as possible.

KL Rahul 5/10

Quite palpably, KL Rahul is struggling to bat in the middle order. Things might change in the time to come considering how versatile a batsman he is, but opening is his forte and currently, no slot is vacant up there.

Kedar Jadhav 4/10

A poor outing for the talented batsman, who turned an all-rounder ever since Dhoni spotted the off-break bowler in him. He was dismissed for a duck by Akila Dananjaya. With the ball, he managed to pick a wicket in the 3 overs he bowled and didn’t give away any freebies.

MS Dhoni 8/10

Throw MS Dhoni into a volcano and the volcano will freeze failing to withstand the cool customer the former Indian skipper is. A magnificent stand with Rohit Sharma ensured India didn’t make things too difficult for them. He registered his 65th ODI fifty and took his side home in an enthralling contest of cricket.

Hardik Pandya 5/10

Didn’t get to bat, but Pandya was decent with the ball. In 8 overs, he managed to pick up the crucial scalp of Dinesh Chandimal and gave away 42 runs. A tad bit expensive considering the pitch conditions, but a decent performance from the all-rounder.

Axar Patel 6/10

With the battle for a place in the side intensifying, Axar Patel has pulled his socks and is keen to book a ticket in the squad that will travel to England for the World Cup in 2019. It was a terrific spell from the lad, giving absolutely nothing away. Giving away 35 runs in 10 overs is splendid on any track. He picked up the wicket of Kapugedara, which was a perfect reward for his grit.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4/10

Bhuvneshwar got some swing in his first few overs but took some beating in the Powerplay. He pulled back things brilliantly and finished with figures of 0/41 in 9 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah 9/10

The way Bumrah is nurturing, he is bound to achieve great things over the course of his career. He picked up his first five-fer in International cricket and his yorkers were spot on right from the outset. Without a shadow of a doubt, his figures of 5/27 make him the best player of the day.

Yuzvendra Chahal 5/10

Went wicketless, but there were a couple of occasions when he came close. Chahal finished with figues of 0/49 and he did nothing to make his presence felt. He didn’t do anything bad either, but wickets is what he needs to stay in tact with the team.
