After suffering a humiliating defeat in the first ODI at Wankhede, Virat Kohli and Co. retaliated and bounced back to clinch the three-match series 2-1. A robust batting unit, impressive bowling performances and agile fielding efforts steered India to the series win on the home soil.

India showed a lot of character and how much it means to them protect their record at the home turf. Australia were easily India’s biggest test this season, but the dominant Men in Blue once again found a way out of that situation.

Virat Kohli and his troops have been producing such results over the last two years and it was no surprise they fought back being 1-0 down to go and win the series 2-1 in just a week’s time with the New Zealand tour in sight.

Let’s take a look at five takeaways for India from this three-match series:

1. Invest in KL Rahul’s talent

KL Rahul has been thrown in different challenges almost every time he has been given a place in the starting 11, but he has fought his way out through all of them. There is very little that KL Rahul hasn’t done for this team since his debut and the latest addition to his resume is ‘batting at No.5 and keeping wickets’.

KL Rahul keeping wickets opens a lot of opportunities for the team and can be an option going forward as indicated in the final ODI. When KL Rahul went in to bat at No 5 he showed us all why the captain and the management has backed him so much over the years. Virat Kohli even went on to say in the post-match ceremony that this was his best innings and it showed a lot of class and maturity.

It’s not every day that you find batsman like  KL Rahul who can bat at any position and adapt well to different situations, and this series will act as a clear indicator to BCCI why they should invest in his talent.
