As far as the shortest format is concerned, India have not been taking the best of the calls in recent times.

The chief selector MSK Prasad said, “We are moving ahead” in his press conference (although regarding MS Dhoni). But, that’s not the case, as far as, India’s batting unit is concerned. India are still, stuck with a few batsmen who are more suitable to the 50-over format. The middle overs (7-16) – is a phase in T20 cricket – in which teams look to accumulate runs at a quick rate.

A batting duo comprising of an anchor and an attacking batsman can do this job perfectly. Since India have Virat Kohli as an anchor in their full-strength XI, they do not need more anchors. Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey are two such batsmen in the current squad who are better equipped for that anchoring role. One batsman who can fulfill the role of an attacking batsman in this Indian batting line-up is Nitish Rana.

The southpaw who represents Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL was the best Indian batsman for his side in IPL 2019. Averaging 34.30 with the bat, Rana scored 344 runs with a strike rate of over 146 in 11 innings. The 25-year-old is capable of scoring runs at a quick rate and can bat according to the situation as well. The dashing batsman is an excellent player of spin and decent against pace and would be hoping to get his chance soon.
