Ahead of the second Test match against India, Bangladesh have suffered a huge jolt as one of their opening batsmen, Saif Hassan has been ruled out of the historic day-night Test in Kolkata. The visitors have not had the luck by their side in the past few weeks as their skipper Shakib Al Hasan had received a one-year ban from ICC just a few days before the tour’s commencement.

Also, the Bangladeshi players had been on a strike because of their disagreement with the board on certain issues. The 2017 Champions Trophy semi-finalists had kicked off the tour on a winning note by beating India in the opening T20I however, nothing has gone in their favor since then.

Saif Hassan set to miss the 2nd Test

Bangladesh’s reserve opening batsman, Saif Hassan was in line to make his Test debut against India in the 2nd Test. The primary opening batsmen of the Bangladesh side, Imrul Kayes and Shadman Islam had failed to make an impact in the first Test. The two batsmen could only manage 24 runs between themselves in the two innings.

While the Bangladeshi fans expected Saif to replace either of the two openers in the second Test, a last-minute injury has ruled him out of the contest. The 21-year-old had split his finger webbing during the first Test when he was on the field as a substitute fielder.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Bangladesh Cricket Board issued a statement on Hassan’s injury via a press release. The release stated, “Medical Team is of the opinion that he will benefit from being rested to full recovery. Taking the state of injury into consideration, Saif has been ruled out of the second Test.”

Since there is not much time left for the 2nd match, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has named no replacement for Hassan. This means that the pair of Islam and Kayes will open the innings for Bangladesh once again.

It will be interesting to see if the duo can better its previous performance in the pink-ball Test match.  The 2nd Test match will begin on 22nd November in Kolkata.  As revealed by the new BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, the tickets for this historic match have been sold out.
