India is all set to face England for the four-match Test series commencing on 5th February in Chennai. While the team is brimming with confidence after high profile series win in Australia, it will be a thing to watch, who all would find a place in India’s playing XI for the 1st Test against the visitors. In the latest turn of events, Indian skipper Virat Kohli addressed a virtual press conference where he confirmed the openers for the 1st match.

Kohli stated that young star Shubman Gill and senior batter Rohit Sharma would take India’s charge as openers. He also added that a great start will be expected from them when they take on the field. Gill has become the favourite choice in the opening position owing to sheer brilliance in the Australia Test series last month.

“We’re looking forward to giving Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill a long rope as openers. We look forward to good starts from them in all the Test matches we play,” said Kohli in the press conference.

The youngsters of India did an outstanding job for the team in Australia, while most of the seniors were out of the squad due to injury issues. Their injuries became a blessing in disguise for the young army of India, and they rose to the occasion while battling all the odds. However, when the seniors are back in action, it would be difficult for India to select their ideal XI. India’s bench strength would be too strong in days to come.

Rishabh Pant to keep wickets for India in the first Test

There has also been a conflict about who would keep the wickets for India between young Rishabh Pant and veteran Wriddhiman Saha. However, Pant’s masterclass in Australia has paved a great way for him, and Kohli has stated that Pant would be keeping the wickets for them in the first Test against England.

“Rishabh Pant will play for us in the first Test. He will keep wickets. He made an impact performance for us recently and is high on confidence. He will continue to be backed, can be a consistent match-winner for us,” added Kohli.
