After the Miller-Van der Dussen’s show in Delhi, the action now moves to the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack as both India and South Africa face each other in the second of the five-match T20I series on June 12, 2022. All the batter’s efforts went in vain as India failed to defend the target of 212 courtesy of destructive innings from the above-mentioned duo. Fresh from winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) title with Gujarat Titans (GT), Miller has carried his T20 form onto the international stage.

Ishan Kishan top-scored for the hosts as he smashed 76 off just 48 while all the other players also got solid starts. India went on to register their highest total of 211/4 against the Proteas in T20 internationals. In the big run-chase, South Africa found themselves at 81/3 in 8.4 overs and it was all Miller and Van der Dussen from thereon. The pair scripted the highest fourth-wicket partnership of 131 runs for their country in the T20Is as they remained unbeaten till the end to take their team home.

Southpaw Miller scored 64 while van der Dussen 75 with the visitors taking a 1-0 lead in the series. It was the first instance of India failing to defend a target of over 200 runs in the shortest international format. The hosts were bundled out for just 92 runs against the same opposition when both the teams met in a T20I at the same venue in 2015 as South Africa inflicted a six-wicket victory over the Men in Blue. Rishabh Pant, who got appointed the skipper just on the eve of the first match due to KL Rahul’s injury, would look to bounce back with his side and level the series.
