India had opted for Rohit Sharma as their opener in a three-match Test series against South Africa. There was a clash in the opinions of the former cricketers ahead of the series over the selection of Rohit. This series was a test for the selection committee as well who have been brought under the scanner for their selection criteria, but it looks like it has paid off and their search for an opener comes to an end after Mumbai batsman scored two brilliant tons in both the innings of the Test match.

For the 32-year-old, this was the first time that he was playing as an opener in the longest format for Team India and he gave mouth shutting reply to his critics who thought he has no temperament to play Test cricket. After registering hundreds in both the innings, he has now become the only cricketer in history to do this in his debut match as an opener.

Rohit and Pujara did a partnership of 169 runs in the second innings

In the second innings, India looked pretty aggressive from the starting although they lost Mayank Agarwal a bit early but Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit looked to have some different ideas in their mind who did a partnership of 169 runs for the second wicket. They both took the bowlers in every direction of the ground, but it was Dane Piedt who became the victim of Indian opener who scored three consecutive sixes against Proteas spinner.

The incident came during the 56th over on day four during the second innings. He went for sixes towards the long-on followed by the other two towards the deep mid-wicket and wide long-on areas of the ground.

Here is the video

Earlier, during the first innings, South Africa had got a tough task to shot down a mammoth total of 502 runs and in the end, they remained short of 71 runs, but the highlight of the Indian bowling was Ravichandran Ashwin who bowled a dream spell of 46.2-11-145-7 and he took his 21st fifer in his own country.

He was well supported by his teammate Ravindra Jadeja who also bagged two wickets in the match that includes a crucial wicket of Dean Elgar who was the top scorer of South Africa.
