After a hard-fought win in the second ODI, India would be facing the West Indies in the third game at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. This will be an important game for the Kieron Pollard-led side as a loss here would result in a whitewash for them in the three-match series. It was a case of so near yet so far for the visitors in the second match on Wednesday but, the Indian bowlers held their nerves as the hosts came out on top with a 44-run victory and clinched the series. Taking confidence from the positive intent shown by them, the visitors would be hoping to come out all guns blazing in the inconsequential clash.

Meanwhile, India who had registered a convincing six-wicket win in the series-opener found themselves in a spot of bother in the second ODI after being put in to bat by the stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran. And, after being reduced to 43/3 despite stumper Rishabh Pant being promoted as an opener, the limited-overs vice-captain KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav had added 91 runs for the fourth-wicket stand. The middle-order duo of Deepak Hooda and bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar’s vital knocks helped the hosts post a fighting total. The Indian bowlers worked in tandem to stop the West Indies resistance with young pacer Prasidh Krishna breaking the backbone of the visitors taking four wickets.

Pitch Report

The Ahmedabad pitch had helped the spinners in the first game as they ended up bagging eight wickets. However, the day belonged to the pacers in the very next game as they took 13 wickets in total. The Windies pace duo of Alzaarri Joseph and Odean Smith had shared two scalps each in the first innings.

Youngster Prasidh Krishna picked up four wickets and his pace bowling partners Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj picked up a couple and one wicket each. However, the captains winning the toss in the last two games preferred chasing and it could be no different in the third game as well. It is expected to be a good contest between both bat and ball in the final ODI.

Probable Top Performers

Probable best batter of this match

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has turned out to be India’s savior so far in this One Day series. He has scored 98 runs from two games. The middle-order sensation had finished off things in style for the Men In Blue in the first ODI with an unbeaten 34 and then scored a match-winning 64 in the second one off 83 deliveries that propelled the hosts to 237/9 from their 50 overs which proved to be more than enough in the end. The Mumbai batter would now be looking forward to scoring a big one in the last One Day International and once again make it matter for his side when it matters the most.

Probable best bowler of the Match

Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna was outstanding with the ball in hand and played a huge role in India’s win in the second ODI despite not having ample runs on the board. Having registered two scalps in the first two games, the Karnataka cricketer showcased an extraordinary performance in the following match with double the scalps to his name. The tall pacer finished with figures of 4/12 from his nine overs at an economy rate of 1.3 including three maiden overs. He would once again be expected to make the ball do the talking in the third and final One Day.
