Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant scored 80 runs and 56 respectively to guide India to a total of 265 in 50 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took three wickets each to restrict West Indies to just 169 all-out subsequently winning the third ODI by 96 runs, clean sweeping the Caribbean side 3-0. Rohit Sharma became the first Indian captain to whitewash West Indies in an ODI series. It is also the fifth consecutive defeat for the men in maroon in the 50-overs format.

Speaking of how the third ODI panned out, team India made four changes from the last match as KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Hooda all missed out and were replaced by Shikhar Dhawan, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and Shreyas Iyer.

Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first but the pair of Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t do much as both amassed 13 and 10 runs respectively. Virat Kohli had a series to forget as he bagged a duck eventually scoring just 26 runs in three matches, which is his second-lowest in a bilateral series at home. Deepak Chahar continued to impress with the bat as he smashed 38 runs to help India in reaching 265. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers as he took four wickets for 34 runs.

Chasing 266, West Indies again failed miserably with the bat as Odean Smith, who came in at no. 9 recorded the highest score for the Caribbean team which was 36. Alazarri Joseph scored 29 with the visitors continuing their horrible performances in the batting department.

Indian pacers took eight wickets in total in between them to hand West Indies a thrashing. Shreyas Iyer was declared as the Player of the Match and Prasidh Krishna Player of the Series for picking up nine scalps in the series. Both teams will now contest in a three-match T20I series starting February 16, 2022, at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
