Not often do we see pace bowlers delivering on placid wickets in the sub-continent. And when they do, it becomes such a happy sight that praises pour in thick and fast, even from their fellow fast bowlers. Umesh Yadav did the same for India on Day 2 of the second Test against the Windies in Hyderabad and among the several voices that applauded the speedster for his 6 for 88 were that of his colleague in Team India, Jasprit Bumrah.

Umesh picks last three Windies wickets quickly

Yadav picked up the Windies’ three remaining wickets after they resumed from their overnight score of 295 for 7, including that of the centurion Roston Chase. His last two wickets came in as many balls and will look to complete a hat-trick when he comes out to bowl in the second innings.

The visitors could add just 16 more to their overnight score and lasted around seven overs more to get all out for 311. It was Yadav’s best bowling effort and the second five-wicket haul in Tests. His first and only five-wicket haul before this had come way back in January 2012 in Perth against Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah was ecstatic to see Yadav delivering in the match and felt that his hard work paid off. The seamer, who made his Test debut against South Africa earlier this year, has been rested for the Windies series after he returned from an injury in the recent Test series in England. Bumrah has earned a bad name of bowling no-balls at crucial stages of games though he bowled magnificently in the recently held Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The second Test, meanwhile, is promising to be more engaging than the first which the Windies lost by an innings and 272 runs inside three days. India have lost their top four batsmen as the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant are holding the fort and have close to 50 runs for the fifth wicket now. The hosts will hope for them to continue batting in the same vein.
