India and Windies played out a thrilling tie in Vizag in the second ODI of the five-match ODI series. The visitors were the favourites to chase down the total but they failed to up the ante in the death overs and finally, the scores were levelled in a heart-stopping thriller. During the second innings though, Rishabh Pant survived a major injury scare at the boundary line and was off the field after the same.
The incident took place in the 36th over when Yuzvendra Chahal was slammed in the air by Rovman Powell which went high in the night sky. Pant, who was under the ball, tried to take a smart catch but lost his balance thanks to the boundary ropes and thudded into the banners. He looked uncomfortable after that and was taken off the field by the physio to assess.
Will he miss the series?
During the match itself, Cricbuzz provided an update regarding Rishabh Pant’s injury. He has survived an injury scare and nothing is serious. However, the left-hander is being assessed and has some lacerations to his fingers of both hands and his left shoulder. It will be interesting to see if he will be risked for the third ODI as the series is still locked at 1-0 after two matches.
As far as Pant’s ODI debut is concerned, it hasn’t gone all good for the youngster. After not getting an opportunity to bat in the series opener, he had a chance to finish things off in style. But Rishabh Pant could only muster 17 runs off 13 deliveries while his skipper Virat Kohli was looking in sensational touch at the other end.
With only 15 ODIs to go ahead of the World Cup, India need to find a capable finisher at number six and Pant could be the answer for the same provided he proves his worth.
