Indian company joins South African team Cape Cobras as associate sponsors

The team also confirmed that JP Duminy will be leading them in the upcoming season in the limited-overs format whereas Dane Piedt is the man in charge of the red-ball team.

The interest of Indian business is expanding in South Africa’s cricket as after three IPL franchise owners bought teams in the now scraped Cricket South Africa’s T20 tournament a Pune based corporate group as tied up with the Cape Cobras team. The S Balan Group today announced a three-year sponsorship association with the Cape Town domestic cricket team.

The team is excited to have tied-up with the people they share a deep bond of trust and respect. The chief executive of the team was delighted to announce the partnership with the new associate sponsors and said that it reflects the success their team has had on the field and in producing promising cricketers.

“I have known Mr Balan and the S Balan Group for a couple of years now and trust and deeply respect their work ethic, ethos and success. This is a good fit for the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras who have for years been the primary producer of international players while winning several trophies since the franchise era started in 2004/2005,” Nabeal Dien, the chief executive officer of the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras was quoted as saying by Insider Sports.

“We are delighted in the new associate sponsorship and trust it will be a long and fruitful association that will see the transformation of players from good to great,” he added.

Plans for expansion

Mr Balan happened to meet Nabeal Dien through the Cobras team skipper JP Duminy during the IPL and managed to take this through. The S Balan Group majorly operates in the construction and real estate segment along with a host of other business that ranges from IT to food and beverage as well as sports.

“I met Mr Nabeal Dien through JP Duminy and Basil Madeira when Duminy was playing in the IPL. That is when we discussed about expanding to South Africa and in developing new talent,” said Mr Balan.

“Sponsorship is the first step to come to Cape Cobras and we hope to ultimately buy a stake in the team that could become a franchise in a tournament like the IPL. We are excited about this development, we have committed ourselves for three years and we will also be hoping to become a headline sponsor of the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras,” he added.
