The Board of cricket control for India (BCCI) have reportedly finalised the Central Contracts list for the 2021-22 season. A total of 27 cricketers have been provided with the contract and a couple of players have been excluded from the previous contract and they are Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Yadav. No changes have been implemented in the payment structures from the last year.

The cricketers are divided into four categories A+, A, B and C. Few players have been promoted, demoted and a player has been included freshly in this contract list. The players have been rewarded for their performances while playing for the Indian team over the last 12 months.

Here&#8217;s a look at the centrally contracted players and their salaries:

The current captain of the Indian team <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/i-want-to-use-ravindra-jadeja-a-lot-more-with-the-bat-rohit-sharma-after-all-rounders-breathtaking-175-in-mohali-test/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rohit Sharma</a> remains in the top category for this season. He has been a consistent member of the Indian team in all three formats of the game and after Virat Kohli resigned from his captaincy, Rohit has been appointed as the captain of all the formats. He will earn a salary of INR 7 crore for the said period.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ind-vs-sl-virat-kohli-gifts-national-jersey-to-specially-abled-fan-after-100th-test/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Virat Kohli</a> has been an integral part of the Indian team since his debut. He plays all three formats constantly and is a highly dependable player. He was the third-highest run-scorer of the team in all the formats in 2021.

Virat stepped down from his T20I and Test captaincy and was also sacked from the ODI captaincy recently. His batting was also not as his usual best. Even though his performances have seen a dip in recent times, he as a senior player has been retained in the top category. Like Rohit, he will also earn INR 7 crore during this period.

The only bowler to represent the (A+) category is Jasprit Bumrah. His services are needed for the team in all formats without any major breaks. He has been the vital cog of the team and has also has been given the responsibility of vice-captaincy in the Test format. Hence he has been retained in this category once again where he will earn a whopping amount of 7 crore.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/from-not-being-seen-as-a-t20-specialist-to-becoming-a-beast-virat-kohli-reflects-on-kl-rahuls-great-ipl-transfomation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KL Rahul</a> will continue for this season in the Grade (A) category. He was expected to get a promotion for his all-round performances in the three formats and for his added responsibilities. He played a total of 25 matches for India since 2021 and has hit 1,132 runs with an average of 33.9.

This 29-year-old batter was the highest run-getter of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup. He also captained the Test side in the absence of Rohit Sharma and will be his deputy in limited-overs. If his services continue like this, he will certainly get a promotion in the next season.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin &#8211; INR 5 crore

The modern legendary Test bowler Ravi Ashwin will earn INR 5 crore for this 2021-22 season according to contract. Apart only from playing the longest format of the game, Ashwin got a comeback call into the limited-overs side for the T20 world cup after four long years. He utilised his chances well and played a few T20I and ODI matches and can expect him to be part of the limited-overs side in the future too.

He is now a much-improved batter and his overall performance has been phenomenal. Jadeja is a deserving candidate to get a promotion as he represents the team in most of the matches as a primary player. But still, he continues in the grade (A) category.

Rishabh Pant’s growth over the years has astonished everyone. It isn’t easy to fill the shoes of the legendary wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, but Pant has managed really well to fix his spot in the XI across all the formats. His fearless and innovative batting and skillful wicket-keeping make him a key member of the Indian team.

Pant surpassed Virat Kohli and became the second-highest run-scorer in all the formats of 2021. Since 2021, he hit two centuries and 11 fifties and averaged 42.05 overall. He also was appointed as Rohit’s deputy in the absence of KL Rahul in the recently held series against West Indies.

Mohammed Shami remains in category (A) without any changes. He is the primary choice of seam bowler after Bumrah in the Indian squad. He has played 13 matches including the Tests and T20I cricket overall since 2021 and has taken 35 wickets.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/we-need-to-give-them-solid-run-to-excel-rohit-sharma-on-youngsters-replacing-cheteshwar-pujara-ajinkya-rahane/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ajinkya Rahane</a>, the former Test vice-captain of India, has been demoted to grade (B) from grade (A). He has been serving the Indian Test team as a consistent middle-order batter for a long time. His average topped in the year 2019 at 71.33

But during the course of the last couple of years, Rahane&#8217;s performances started to dip and in 15 matches since 2021, his average was just 18.91. Rahane was then dropped from the Test squad too and has to prove his form in the domestic cricket to make a comeback into the squad again.

Only the second Indian seamer after Kapil Dev to feature in 100 or more Tests is <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/sa-vs-ind-shaun-pollock-calls-for-clear-communication-between-indian-management-and-ishant-sharma/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ishant Sharma</a>. This old horse has been serving the national Test team since 2007 and has played at least a Test in a calendar year in these fifteen long years. He has maintained his fitness and still looks to be fit.

In the eight matches he played in 2021, he just managed to pick 14 wickets and since the team focussed on grooming the youngsters like Mohammed Siraj, he was given only a few chances. As Ishant couldn’t be at his best, and as he is not used as a primary option,  he has been dropped to grade (B) from grade (A).

Shardul Thakur has improved a lot in terms of his batting and bowling in recent times. He has been quite consistent in the squads of ODI, T20I, and Tests, and has managed to perform well in all the fields. His emergence as a proper all-rounder in the absence of Hardik Pandya in the limited-overs meant he played more matches for India. He has now been retained in the same grade (B).

12. Cheteshwar Pujara &#8211; INR 3 crore

Another cricketer who has been demoted to grade (B) from (A) is the player who was lauded as the modern wall of Indian Test cricket – Cheteshwar Pujara. He has been an integral number three batter of the only format he plays. Pujara has been struggling for a good run for a long time.

His last century came back in 2019 and hasn’t produced any big scores after that. The positive performances of the youngsters and the bad form of Pujara were contemporary. Despite failing many times, he was given enough chances, but still, he couldn’t come back strong. Hence he was dropped from the Test squad against Sri Lanka and now has been demoted.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ind-vs-sl-mohammed-siraj-imitates-ravindra-jadejas-sword-celebration-in-mohali/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mohammed Siraj</a> is an excellent seam bowling option that the Indian team currently has. He predominantly plays in the Tests and in a few ODI and T20I matches since 2021. In 16 matches overall, he has taken 38 wickets with an average of 30. As a reward for his performance, he has been promoted to group (B).

Axar Patel is now a part of the longest and shortest format of the game. Since his Test debut in 2021, it has only been a dream journey for this player. In his five Test matches, he has grabbed 36 wickets with five fifers and a ten-wicket haul. He also contributes with the bat and is used as an all-rounder option. Axar has now been promoted deservingly to grade (B) from grade (C).

One of the three players who has been promoted to Grade (B) is <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/shreyas-iyer-moves-up-the-icc-mens-t20i-player-rankings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shreyas Iyer</a>. It was expected that Shreyas would get a promotion for his performances and has earned it thoroughly. He is one of the trusted and consistent middle-order batters.

In T20Is this year, he played four matches and has hit three consecutive fifties and in ODIs, he has an average of above 30. Apart from the limited-overs, he impressed everyone with a century on his Test debut and made him a serious contender for the format. Even though his position is in great demand most of the time, he has remained calm and managed to produce runs.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/opening-with-shikhar-dhawan-would-be-fantastic-pbks-skipper-mayank-agarwal-ahead-of-ipl-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shikhar Dhawan</a> has now experienced one of the biggest drops down from grade (A) to grade (C). He will now earn only INR 1 crore per annum. Dhawan was used only in the limited-overs format but now he is seen by the selectors as just an ODI player.

The IPL has shown many young Indian talents who could be more effective in the T20 format and hence Dhawan is not considered for the shortest format anymore. However, his average in the ODIs and his experience in the format are much needed for the team. Hence, as the veteran opener will most probably play only in the ODIs hereafter and hence, has been demoted.

The speedster Umesh Yadav has been considered only for the Test squad. He has not been seen in his best rhythm and has taken only 10 wickets in eight innings since 2021. His inconsistency in picking wickets has made him a back option and hence he is a part of grade (C) contract list.

Another player who has been downgraded two levels is the much-experienced all-rounder <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/ipl-2022-hardik-pandya-begins-preparations-in-full-swing-gujarat-titans-camp-likely-to-be-in-ahmedabad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hardik Pandya</a>. It has been a very tough couple of years for this star, as he suffered a back injury and was forced to change his role as only a batter in the team.

This restriction hit the team’s combination hard and still, Hardik couldn’t prove enough with the bat. Even though many youngsters were experimented for this spot, no one could match the standard in which he played. However, his injury and form concerns made him sacrifice his spot in the XI.

The classic Punjabi talent Shubman Gill made his way into the Test squad in 2020 and has played a total of 10 matches till now. He has scored 558 runs with an average of 32.82. This young sensation seems to be the future of Indian batting and looks technically strong. Hence, he is now a regular member of the Test squad and so he has been retained in the grade (C) contract.

The solitary new inclusion to the contract list is the versatile middle-order batter, <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/suryakumar-yadav-secures-first-bcci-central-contract/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Suryakumar Yadav</a>. It is indeed deserving for this player to get a BCCI contract. After a long struggle, this 31-year-old batter got a chance to represent the blues in 2021.

Surya grabbed the chances with both hands by performing exceptionally well and fixed his spot in the squad. On playing 14 T20I matches in 2021-22, he has hit 351 runs with a strike rate of 165.56 and in seven ODI matches, he has an average of 53.40. So, he has got his maiden contract in grade (C).

Hanuma Vihari will continue to be in grade (C) this season. He is a classic Test batter who has been representing the team since 2018. He is a technically sound batter with a calm and composed mind. Vihari was much lauded for his match-saving innings in the third Test match against Australia in Sydney.

He got injured during the Test and missed the action for quite some time. He made a comeback against South Africa in which he played three Tests in 2021-22 and hit 145 runs at an average of 43. With the exclusion of Rahane and Pujara from the Test squad, Vihari would get many chances to play and batted at number three in 1st Test vs Sri Lanka.

Mayank Agarwal currently plays Test cricket for India. He has been in and out of the playing XI. He is a player who has not been so consistent throughout with the bat. In the seven Tests he played since 2021, he has an average of 32.46. Apart from a few matches, Agarwal hasn’t been promising. Hence, he is placed in Grade B and will earn INR 1 crore.

This 37-year-old wicket-keeping batter <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/he-tampered-my-chats-veteran-journalist-files-defamation-case-against-wriddhiman-saha-over-screenshot-row/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wriddhiman Saha</a> has been demoted to group (C) in the new contract. He has been playing as a keeper in the Indian Test squad since 2010 and has played 40 matches in which he maintains an average of 29.41.

Saha was dropped from the Test squad against Sri Lanka and he claims that he was informed by the selectors that he won’t be considered for the future as the team needs to move on with other young options. Yet, he has been given an annual contract of INR 1 crore.

24. Bhuvneshwar Kumar &#8211; INR 1 crore

It hasn’t been a good couple of years for the Indian swing bowler – Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He was the prime bowler of India a few years back, but the injuries ruined his momentum and his performances weren’t up to his standards in recent times. He failed to take early wickets in the powerplay as he used to do.

Hence he was first demoted to group (B) from group (A) in 2021 and now, he has been further demoted to group (C) for the upcoming season. He is only a part of the limited-overs side. In 2021-22, he played 16 T20Is and has picked 17 wickets with an economy of 7.05. His lack of effective performance and emergence of future talents has hit his earnings.

<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/reports-csks-deepak-chahar-likely-to-miss-majority-of-ipl-2022-amid-fitnesss-issues/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deepak Chahar</a> will remain in the same category (C) for this season. He is an evolving all-rounder of the Indian limited-overs side. Since 2021, he has played four ODIs and seven T20Is and has picked eight wickets each respectively. Apart from his contributions with the ball, he also hit two fifties in ODIs and also played a crucial cameo in the third T20I match against New Zealand in 2021.

26. Washington Sundar &#8211; INR 1 crore

But again, he was ruled out of the upcoming series with a hamstring injury.
