Indian fans roast Faf du Plessis after he accuses Team India of declaring in dark after making 500 every Test

"Every Test match, they bat first, they score 500, they declare when it’s dark, they get three wickets when it’s dark, and when Day 3 starts, you’re under pressure."

South African captain Faf du Plessis was not a happy man when the team touched down back in the country after being beaten black and blue by Virat Kohli’s India in the three-match Test series. The Proteas started off well by drawing the three T20Is series under Quinton de Kock, but the team completely disheveled in the longest format competition.

South Africa started off well in the first Test as Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock made brilliant tons and they crossed the 400-run mark, setting a good tone for the match. But then Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal happened to them, as the Mumbaikar hit twin centuries on his debut as an opener and Agarwal turned his maiden ton into a double. Ravi Ashwin picked 8 wickets on his return to Tests and that was it for the Proteas, their back was broken.

Things continued the same way, as Faf du Plessis lost all the three tosses in the series, allowing India to bat first and out on huge scores. Virat Kohli made 254* and Mayank Agarwal made 108 in the Pune Test, while Rohit Sharma made 212 and Rahane made 115 in the third Test in Ranchi, as India managed scores of 502/7d, 323/4d, 601/5d, and 497/9d in the three Tests.

Faf du Plessis gets trolled by Indian fans

“Every Test match, they bat first, they score 500, they declare when it’s dark, they get three wickets when it’s dark, and when Day 3 starts, you’re under pressure. It was like a copy and paste in every Test match. (If the toss is done away with in overseas Tests) then away teams will have a better chance. In South Africa, I don’t mind that. We bat on green tops anyway,” a frustrated Du Plessis said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

These words by a captain of an international cricket team didn’t sit well with the Indian fans given that the home side was clearly better on the given day, because South Africa barely managed to reach 200 on the same pitch on which India made those 500 plus totals. The fans felt that Du Plessis was downplaying the achievements of Kohli and his men in order to show himself and his team as a victim and took their ire out on Twitter.
