The India head coach Anil Kumble might get a new role of a Team director soon. The former leg-spinner who has done a terrific job with the senior National team so far is expected to get the new contract by April 14.

Kumble, soon after the second Test against Australia in Bengaluru, met the court-appointed committee of administrators (CoA) to decide on the matter.

Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to have a structure like the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). They have given Kumble time to decide on the same as it would require him devote more time than what he is doing now, with the team.

If Kumble takes up the job, one from the committee of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly is likely to be entrusted with the responsibility of handling cricket operations of all BCCI teams. At the moment, MV Sridhar is handling cricketing operations of the team and it is not clear whether he will continue in his role.

“We need to move ahead with the times and that is why these structural changes are looked at. If it happens, Indian cricket will benefit, as one person will handle all the teams and there will be better coordination between all concerned. The plan is already in place and there is a strong possibility that when new contracts are given out, these changes will be made,” board sources told The New Indian Express

Whether Kumble will take this offer, only time will tell. He would not like to overload himself with work. Indian Cricket plays a lot of International Cricket throughout the year, so Kumble will decide accordingly as handling multiple roles won’t be easy for him. With the Champions Trophy down the line in June, he would like to concentrate on the job at hand.
