Indian Oil Corp make opportune use of memes relating to Team India’s Orange Jersey

Everything that hits the surface of the earth now is potentially a meme. These memes can make you famous or infamous and most individuals and even brands on social media have now figured how to make opportune use of the hype. Amidst the World Cup 2019, Team India unveiled the Orange Jersey for the one away game against England. This kit has a mix of orange and a darker shade of blue.

Immediately social media was flooded with memes with most fans not quite liking the combination of colours. It was compared with everything from Bournvita to Harpic and even the uniform of fuel agents at Indian Oil Corporation’s petrol pumps. While that was material for memers to make fun of this kit designed by Nike, IOC really decided to milk the free PR they were getting.

IOC quite happy with the coincidence

They put out a tweet with a collage of two images – one of their personnel wearing the orange and blue uniform and the other Indian skipper Virat Kohli wearing the newly designed jersey. The tweet read – “Colors that unite the country ! Join us as we #BleedOrange (and blue) and cheer our hearts out for #TeamIndia for #CWC2019”

Earlier today, on the eve of Team India’s match with hosts England, Virat at the press conference was out with his jersey. He seems to really like it, the colour contrast that was designed as well as the fit. On the scale of 10, he would rate it as high as 8.

“I quite like it, I think it’s right up there. For me it would be eight. Honestly, I’m not saying it for the sake of it. I really like it. The contrast is very nice. The fit is great, it’s a nice change,” the Indian captain said.

He clarified that this is just for the one game and is pretty happy with their regular blue jersey since the team has forever been called ‘Men in Blue’

“For one game, it’s fine. I don’t think permanently we’d be heading in that direction because blue has always been our colour, very proud to wear that. For a change and looking at the occasion, it’s a very smart kit,” Virat further said.
