India’s limited over squads for South Africa series likely to be announced on September 15: India are gearing up to face South Africa in what is expected to be the most high-profile encounter for the men in blue after the 2015 ODI World Cup. Proteas will play 5 one dayers 3 T20Is and 4 Tests in a 72 day long tour to the subcontinent. According to well placed sources the national selectors will meet on the 15th of this month in Delhi to finalize the Indian squad for the limited over series. After that the selected players will attend a pre season camp in Bangalore, starting from Sept. 20. Earlier reports also surfaced that some senior players like Dhoni, Kohli and Raina will play against the touring Bangladesh A team in a bid to get match fit for the big encounter.
The South African series will also mark the start of India’s international calendar of 2015. It is one of the rare occasions where the ODIs and T20Is will be played prior to the Test matches and is probably done with a view to cash in the festive fever that engulfs the country in October.
South Africa will arrive in the country high on confidence, after their recent success against New Zealand at home. They have always been a side whose home and away performances are not as contrasting as some other sides. On their last tour to India in 2010 they narrowly missed a chance to win the Test series after loosing the Kolkata Test with just 2 overs to survive. But the ODI series that followed saw them capitulate spectacularly to loose 2-1. The second game of that famous series saw Sachin Tendulkar become the first man to score a double hundred in ODIs, a record that was later broken by Gayle, Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag.
The visitors would also be concerned by their 1-2 defeat to Bangladesh earlier this season. However the quality time they spent will help them on their Indian visit. The three T20 internationals starting October 2 will also help the selectors assess players for the World T20 in India next year.
