Injury might force James Faulkner out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Australia as a team are on a high at this moment having beaten India and England on all occasions to win the Carlton Mid ODI tri-series, as they beat England comprehensively in the final match played at Perth today. But, in what could be a huge blow for their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 plans all-rounder and the supporting star in their victory in the final James Faulkner looks to have picked up an injury.
The seriousness and the nature of it remains unclear from Cricket Australia’s front but it looked like a troubling strain in the side which forced Faulkner to walk back into the dressing room. Earlier in the day the all-rounder had a perfect outing with the bat capitalizing and converting on the foundation laid by Glenn Maxwell’s 95; Faulkner struck a 50 off 54 balls four fours’ and equal number of sixes.
When skipper George Bailey handed him the ball, he drew blood with the first ball that he delivered sending back the all-important Joe Root. But half-way into the third over of his spell he looked undone and something which we presume being a side strain forced him to keep out of the game then on.
Though the status is completely unknown taking lead from what team mate and Man of the Match Glenn Maxwell said in the post-match press conference “I think he’s pretty down at the moment.”
On whether the injury was serious enough to ruffle up his ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 plans Maxwell said, “I think the thought for any of us being ruled out so late with an injury, I think even if it’s nothing, just the thought of that would hurt a lot of people. I know a few of us were out there hurting for him.”
Faulkner who has now molded himself into a compact, calm and a samurai style finisher, delivering the deadly blows without any fuss around and when they are most needed is expected to play a huge role if Australia is to regain their title in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Not only with the bat but with his pacey and sometimes not so quick, deceiving deliveries Faulkner is also a wicket taking bowler for Australia, for the last year or so he has ensured the team goes in with a well-balanced XI.
All eyes on Cricket Australia who now have two fitness issues to be addressed.
